Terrible Herbst Motorsports takes charge at BITD Vegas To Reno

Terrible Herbst Motorsports took to the grueling Nevada desert once again to take on “The Longest Race In The United States”; The Best In The Desert, Vegas To Reno.  Known for it’s never-ending silt beds, blistering heat and 7500-foot elevation changes, the BITD Vegas To Reno proved it’s unpredictable nature once again.

Campaigning two of the top tier trucks in the Unlimited Trick Truck class, Terrible Herbst Motorsports came to Vegas To Reno with their best hands showing; the #49 Monster Energy Trick Truck driven by Tim Herbst and Larry Roeseler, and Monster Energy Trick Truck #19 Driven by Troy Herbst and Ryan Arciero.

Holding nothing back, the Terrible Herbst drivers piloted their Terrible Herbst Monster Energy Trick Trucks to the top of the heap in an outstanding qualifying session held just outside of Primm, Nevada.  Trick Truck #19 driven by Ryan Arciero would qualify in the 6th position while Trick Truck #49 driven by Larry Roeseler would find itself in a commanding 3rd place position.

Come race-day it was all business for the Terrible Herbst team, knowing they had a huge advantage starting in the front of the pack, both the #49 and #19 knew they had to make a hard charge the minute the green flag dropped.  Without disappointment both Terrible Herbst Trick Trucks were setting a blistering pace at the drop of the green flag.  This is right where the team needed to be in order to finish within the top 3, the team knew it wasn’t going to be easy but knew it was something that had to be done.

“We put in a lot of test time, more than we have all year long.  We got all of the bugs worked out from the Baja 500 and came to Vegas To Reno with everything that we had, we had to, the competition is so tight these days that there is no room for error” commented Roeseler (Diver of the #19 Terrible Herbst Monster Energy Trick Truck)

Quickly making their way past competitors with mechanical issues, Arciero would find himself with a mechanical issue of his own.  After a nearly flawless run spanning over 175 miles, the motor in Trick Truck #49 would stop the hard charging Arciero dead in his tracks, resulting in a DNF for Trick Truck #49.

“It was like a bomb went off when the motor blew, no warning lights, not a hot temperature in sight, it went from 120mph to dead in seconds” commented Arciero.  Although disappointed in their results, the Terrible Herbst Motorsports crew must move on and focus their attention on the next race (SCORE Baja 1000) and learn from their mistakes.

Meanwhile back on course, Roeseler continued to push the Terrible Herbst Monster Energy Trick Truck #19 to it’s limits and found himself running in clean air as the first physical truck on course.  Roeseler would hand the truck over to Tim Herbst at mile marker 307 with a fresh set of BFG tires and a full tank of fuel.  Herbst continued the pace northward towards Dayton, Nevada where the race would come to and end.  Staying focused all the while trying to push Trick Truck #19 to its limits; Tim Herbst would cross the finish line in Dayton, Nevada physically crossing the finish in second place capturing a top five finish on corrected time.

After 535 of the harshest miles in the Nevada desert, some 8 very short minutes would separate all top 5 finishers.  Although not the performance that they were looking for, the Terrible Herbst Motorsports Monster Energy crew will be back and better than ever when they take on the rest of the competition at the 2012 SCORE Baja 1000 in Ensenada Mexico in November.  With plenty of test time ahead, it is without a doubt that Terrible Herbst Motorsports will be doing their homework and have one goal in mind; winning!
